Indian Penal Code 1860 is a document that deals with the crime and punishment. The code was drafted on the recommendation of the First Law Commission of India established in the year 1834 under the Charter Act of 1833. The commission prepared the draft under the chairmanship of Thomas Babington Macaulay. It came into force in British India during the early British Raj in 1862.
